Dr Sutcliffe works in association with The Manchester Acupuncture Room so that his patients may take advantage of the many benefits of acupuncture.
The use of acupuncture within in dentistry is increasing as its effects become more widely known. Most patients seek acupuncture for pre appointment anxiety and post operative recovery however The British Dental Acupuncture Society promote the use of acupuncture for many other dental problems including:
• TMJ (jaw joint) pain
• TMJ Clicking & locking
• Facial Pain
• Muscle spasm
• Chronic Stress Headache
• Migraine
• Trigeminal & other Neuralgias
• Rhinitis & Sinusitis
• Prominent retch reflex
• Xerostomia (Dry mouth problems)
• Altered sensations in the mouth
• Post operative pain
The ancient practice of acupuncture originated in China over 2000 years ago. It works by
inserting very fine needles into specifically selected acupuncture points on the body to
regulate the flow of ‘qi’ (your body’s vital energy). Surgery of any kind, including dental
work can disrupt the flow of qi and cause pain. Traditional acupuncture can be an effective
therapy to help restore balance and promote post operative recovery.
The Manchester Acupuncture Room aims to treat the root of your condition as well as your
main symptoms. This approach helps with resolving your problem at its core whilst also
enhancing your feeling of wellbeing. You may notice other niggling problems disappear as
your main health complaint improves.
Acupuncture needles are much finer than needles used for injections and blood tests. When
the needle is inserted you may feel a tingling sensation or mild ache. This is an indication
that qi has been stimulated. Many people enjoy the experience and find acupuncture
extremely relaxing.
