Biological medicine for the twenty-first century

Homotoxicology is a modern form of homoeopathy and is the most prescribed form of natural medicine in Germany, where is has been used for over 50 years and is practiced by conventional doctors and natural therapists alike. In fact, 80% of orthodox doctors in Germany pre- scribe homoeopathic or antihomotoxic preparations for their patients. The efficacy and safety of homotoxicology is supported by close to 100 clinical trials.

Homotoxicology was founded in 1952 by Dr Reckeweg. Expanding on the fundamentals of homeopathy, as developed by Hahnemann, he integrated them with the new discoveries in biochemistry and embryology that had been made by the 1940s. The low dilution medications, which he formulated, are derived from: the enzyme system of the body, allopathic medicines, extensive nosode preparations (from diseased tissue), herbs, and the more traditional homeopathic remedies.

Low potency medications where there is original product present are used in Complex or Homotoxicology preparations. These remedies are not available over the counter and have to be prescribed by a health care professional.

The mixing of different medicines and different potencies in one remedy selected for their combined effect is very popular in France and Germany. It is not uncommon to have 15–20 medicines ranging from very low to high potencies in the same preparation.

One such remedy with a wide range of uses in dentistry is Traumeel (a Heel product available in the UK from Bio Pathica Ltd www.biopathica.com info@biopathica.com); it is available as ointment, tablets, drops and injection solution. It is well researched and primarily used for acute traumatic injuries, inflammation and arthritis and an alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Specific applications in dentistry are to reduce inflammation, pain and swellings, and accelerate healing.

Traumeel is an excellent adjunct therapy prior to, as well as following dental procedures such as sub gingival scaling and surgery.
